Elementarium
VR puzzle game
This project was carried out during the first year of Master's degree as a semester project. It was produced by a team made up of 3 Game Designers and 3 Programmers in 3 months.
What was my job?
-
Pre-production (Setting up mechanics and systems specific to the game, setting up artistic direction)
-
Complete production of 32 graphic assets (modeling, texturing, integration)
-
Gameplay integration of 8 puzzles
-
Full graphical integration of a level
Skills acquired
This project is my first VR experience. Not having a Game Artist with us on this project, I took the role of Game Artist and was tasked with setting up an artistic direction. It was a very interesting situation taking me out of my comfort zone and pushing me to develop new skills to meet the needs of the project.
This project taught me:
-
Basic modeling on 3DS Max
-
Texturing basics with Subtance
-
A better understanding of the graphical production pipeline of a project
-
Deepen my knowledge of lighting for levels
-
Learn to better communicate the needs of Game Artists to facilitate production
The project didn't stop there!
The project, although completed within the school framework, was not finished immediately for us since we wanted to push it to a release on Steam. To achieve this objective we reworked some elements of the project starting with the general artistic direction in order to facilitate the production of content and especially the graphical integration.
Unfortunately, other projects caught up with us and we were unable to continue pushing production further.
